Heparin
Heparin is a naturally occurring substance in the body that is routinely used in surgery as a pharmaceutical anticoagulant so that blood clot formation may be avoided.

It has been shown that immobilized heparin on a device that is implanted or introduced in the body, dramatically improves its blood- and biocompatibility. Heparin is a bioactive molecule that, in addition to improving blood compatibility, attracts various growth factors and as such it is important for cell signalling, proliferation and differentation.
